BloomBoard Selected to the Disrupt 100 List Honoring Innovative Companies

PALO ALTO, Calif., June 2, 2017 – BloomBoard, the leading provider of competency-based professional development, announced today that it has been named to the Disrupt 100, an annual index celebrating businesses with the most potential to influence, change or create new global markets. BloomBoard was selected number 13 out of the 100 companies chosen, and was the top business listed among the seven companies selected from the education sector.

Since it’s founding in 2010, BloomBoard has been on a mission to empower teacher growth and development. With districts spending on average $18,000 per teacher per year on educator development efforts and teachers reporting that these efforts did not need their specific needs, it became clear that the traditional one-size-fits-all approach to educator professional growth isn’t working anymore. To address this, BloomBoard is helping districts take a new, competency-based approach to professional learning supported by micro-credentials.

Over the past year momentum for educator micro-credentials has been steadily rising with approximately three to four percent of U.S. school districts having implemented professional development programs supported by micro-credentials. In addition, several states are running micro-credential based professional learning programs including the Tennessee, Florida, Washington, Arkansas, and Delaware Departments of Education. BloomBoard also recently announced it has been awarded a contract to pilot a statewide micro-credential program in Texas.

The companies selected for the Disrupt 100 list were selected from millions of startups and corporate ventures around the world, compiled and curated by the world’s leading entrepreneurs, investors and business people based on specific criteria that measures potential to affect an existing market or geography, introduce new customers into an existing market, and/or creating a new market with significant customer demand.
