DeSoto University
School District of DeSoto County has partnered with BloomBoard to offer select non-instructional staff that have an associate degree the opportunity to earn a fully accredited Bachelor’s of Elementary Education through a flexible, on-the-job program – paid for by the district.
Program Overview
DeSoto University provides select non-instructional participants who already hold an associate’s degree the opportunity to earn college credit, which can lead to a fully-accredited Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, and ultimately teacher licensure in Florida. Participants will complete 20 skills-based courses (60 credit hours) while working in a classroom. Participants will be required to create artifacts from their classroom practice and upload them to the BloomBoard platform for assessment.
The program is accredited by Lake Erie College and can be completed in 2 years at no-cost for select participants working within School District of DeSoto County.

To be considered for the position, Associate Teacher candidates must have an Associate’s Degree, enroll in the BloomBoard program to work toward a Bachelors in Elementary Education, and agree to work for the School District of DeSoto County for 4 years after becoming Professionally Certified.

- Work Teacher hours/days (196 days per year, 7.5 hours per day).

- You do not have to attend traditional college courses outside of the work day to earn your Bachelor’s Degree.
- Be supported by a Master Teacher/Mentor that will help you learn the craft of teaching and learning and guide you through the degree and certification process.

Orientation
Once you’ve completed enrollment, you’ll be invited to a kickoff orientation with your program facilitator and other educators in your cohort.
Success Academy
Following the orientation, you’ll attend the BloomBoard Success Academy to help you with your first portfolio submission.

Faculty are available to provide you with personalized 1:1 support during the program.
Asynchronous Discussions
Throughout the program, you can also communicate with other educators in your cohort through the BloomBoard platform.
