Book-making is such a simple way to connect art and the narrative structure. That said, this lesson plan is anything but simple (in a good way!). What caught my eye – and mind – was the detail. Vocabulary, lesson extensions and reflection prompts make this an A+ activity.

Along with being one of my favorite ‘art’ books, this lesson does an amazing job integrating visual elements and design with concepts such as character, setting and plot. It’s beyond comprehensive, pulling in standards, resources and prep needs for the teacher.
Not only does this research report show that teaching literacy through art works, but it does so in a way that’s well organized and completely easy to understand. Who doesn’t love bullet-pointed findings and well-rounded summaries?
