Let's start at the beginning. I have always structured my Socractic Seminars as a fishbowl. When I would coach other educators with this technique I would first show them how to set up a fishbowl discussion. If you haven't done a fishbowl, this description is helpful. It is a little difficult to imagine the concept at first, so it may also be helpful to watch Socratic Seminar Patience and Practice to see it in action.
This video shows a great strategy with Socratic seminars. The students become coaches for one another. This resource also has a worksheet template that teachers can use for preparing their own Socratic seminar. There is also a rubric for students and teachers. Video can be used as a model for students.
I always want to know why I should try a new teaching technique. This video helps answer why Socratic Seminars can be so useful. A quick and fun video introduction and about the purpose and history of the Socratic Method.
